Favorite gifts for one-year-olds from a pediatric sleep consultant and occupational therapist. I have used or recommended all of these items personally with my child or with my patients when I worked in the clinic and hospital settings. I love them all and frequently purchase them as gifts for one year olds!
Purchasing items using these links helps me to continue to provide more free resources, tips and content for parents. Thank you for supporting my small business!
Squigz are an OT’s favorite toy! Especially
for one-year olds. This child is working on
using both hands together. These stick to
mirrors and glass surfaces, so you can use
them to hang objects on, pull them off to
work on grasp and reaching and so much
more. They are also fun bath toys.
This toy is great to work on sit to
stands, visual motor control,
cause/effect and more. The kids love
to watch them spin, so it is motivating
to use to get a child to work on so
many skills.
These cups are great for milk or water
at this age. They are spill proof and
really easy to clean - only 3 parts.
Speech therapists really love the
straws on these too. They also have
many fun designs.
This book has little “bubble wrap”
type bubbles that are really fun to
poke. At this age, they will likely just
love to poke them, and then as they
get older, you can use them to teach
them animals, letters, numbers and
more. They have many different
themed books.
These animals have magnets in them
and the top and bottom comes off of
the main piece. It is a great activity for
working on bilateral coordination
(using both hands together) and it is
really fun. Also, you can use them to
teach colors, body parts and animals.
This one is great for working on fine
motor skills, wrist strengthening, wrist
pronation/supination, counting and
colors. It counts out loud, plays music
and lights up.
These are a classic one-year-old toy.
You pull the cars back and then watch
them go. They are soft and easy to
throw in the diaper bag for
entertainment anywhere! Great for
working on sequencing, visual motor
control and cause/effect.
Pull toys are great to work on whole
body coordination. It is also great for
problem solving. This one has a shape
sorter which is great for visual
perception, fine motor skills and more
problem solving.
This is a great gift for a child who still
sleeps with a pacifier. Sometimes, the
pacifiers fall out of the crib and this
little guy keeps them in the crib. It is
also a cute lovey to snuggle with.
I love a water table. It is great for
sensory activities, problem solving,
independent standing, hand eye
coordination and gross motor skills.
You can put water or sand in it or dry
it off and play inside with toys.
Kyte baby has sleep sacks for older
babies and toddlers. They are made
to last a long time. Also, I love the
quality. They are really soft and have
a double zipper.
This one is great for visual motor
skills, wrist extension and color
matching. Kids love to hit the balls
and watch them fall.
Thank you again for your support and interest. I hope this is helpful as you shop for your or a friend's one year old child. Have fun!
